As many as 15 people were feared killed in a landslide which buried six villages in Taplejung district of northeastern Nepal on Thursday morning.
Nepalese government officals said bad weather had held up rescue work after heavy rainfall triggered the landslide. "We have recovered three dead bodies. At least 12-15 people are missing and they could be buried under rubble," said Surendra Bhattarai, chief district officer of Taplejung.
Dozens of houses in the six villages were either buried or swept away and authorities fear the number of casualties could go up.

"Continuous rainfall in the affected area has hampered rescue and relief efforts. We are trying to provide essentials to those affected and rescue others," Bhattarai said.
Hundreds of landslides have occurred in Nepal since the April 25 and May 12 earthquakes killed over 8,700 people and injured nearly 22,000. The landslides have blocked roads and damaged houses in several districts.
With monsoon expected to hit the country in the next four days, there is fear many more areas in the hilly could witness disasters caused by landslides and avalanches.
